4 points + 3 hours per week + Peninsula + Prerequisites: EDN2525 and EDN2545

Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should be able to continue to further develop design, drawing and computer graphic skills; independently investigate a personal theme using any one or more of the studio art disciplines; refine technical and conceptual skills with emphasis being placed on self direction and critical inquiry in the chosen area(s) of study; investigate and experiment with current trends in their chosen media. Students should have developed a broader understanding of relevant terminology, and become familiar with a wide range of literature and theory. Students should be able to display their finished work for public viewing.

Synopsis Students will be required to select one or more disciplines from those offered in the subject and produce a folio of artworks. Emphasis will be placed on developing mature skills, self direction and critical inquiry in the chosen areas of study. Students will be expected to continue to develop drawing and design expertise, including computer skills. The subject will include the critical analysis of art theory and practice through lectures and seminars, excursions to galleries, schools and regional centres, leading to the development of a specialist art curriculum.

Assessment Written (2000 words): 20% + Folio (1 or 2 major practical pieces, resource folder and drawing folio): 80%
