Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should understand how and why people learn and perform sports skills; understand and appreciate the roles of motivation, aggression and affiliation in sports; have background knowledge and information to help them analyse and interpret gross overt behaviour of sports participants; be able to demonstrate the basic skills and an understanding of the basic playing or performing requirements in the selected dance, sports, gymnastics and other physical activities.
Synopsis Principles of motor skill learning and performance; underlying dimensions of sports performance; sociopsychological nature of sport; psychology of competition; personality dimensions of sport and of sports participants; aggression in sport; affiliation in sport, motivation in sport. Participation in selected physical activities.
Assessment Examination: 40% + Written (1500 words): 30% + Practical test: 30%
