Early childhood environmental science, technology and social science

4 points + 3 hours per week + Second semester + Peninsula

Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should be able to develop a multidisciplinary understanding of a number of environmental issues; analyse influences on children's learning, explore the role that technology can play in children's learning; be able to translate appropriate conceptual ideas and processes about the environment, technology and society into appropriate classroom learning activities.

Synopsis This subject will consist of two strands - environmental science and technology, and social science. In both strands emphasis will be placed on the rationale behind selection of material to be included in the program and planning and implementing developmentally appropriate science/social science programs. The role of the teacher as the facilitator of science/social science learning within early childhood settings and primary classes will be emphasised.

Assessment Written: 50% + Examination: 50%
