Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should be able to further develop design, drawing and computer graphic skills; independently investigate a personal theme using any one or combination of the materials and processes introduced in this subject and previous work; investigate processes such as multicolour silkscreening, elimination block printing on fabric, mixed media constructions, installations, applique and fabric sculpture; experiment with current trends in their chosen media and broaden their understanding of relevant terminology, technology, theory and relevant literature.

Synopsis This subject is designed to provide students with practical skills for the general classroom and art specialisation at the primary level. The introduction of individual coursework, with demonstration and tuition by the lecturer-in-charge, in the technical area chosen by each student. Students will be required to independently investigate a personal theme using any one or combination of the materials and processes introduced in this subject and the previous subjects. The following processes appropriate for application in the classroom will be investigated: mixed media constructions, installations, elimination blockprinting and multicolour screenprinting on fabric. Students will be expected to continue to develop drawing and design skills including computer skills which specifically relate to general classroom and art specialist teaching. The subject will include the critical analysis of art education theory and textile sculptural practices through lectures, excursions to galleries, schools and regional centres, leading to the development of a specialist art curriculum for primary schools.

Assessment Written: 20% + Sculpture/textile folio: 80%
