Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should have developed basic performance skills in singing, movement and instrumental performance; developed an understanding of basic music notation; experienced guided listening activities; considered major philosophies and current issues in music education; applied a variety of organisational means to develop musical compositions; recorded compositions in graphic notation; and designed a thematic unit of work suitable for use in the lower primary classroom.
Synopsis Students in this subject explore opportunities to compose, perform and appreciate music in the pre-school and lower primary classroom, within the context of a sound and workable rationale of music education. They will extend their musical knowledge and skills and explore ideas which will encourage the development of an informed music teaching philosophy.
Assessment Written assignment (1500 words): 65% + Practical performance: 35%
