Expressive arts

4 points + 3 hours per week + First semester + Peninsula

Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should be able to perform on a variety of tuned percussion instruments; perform on a variety of non-tuned percussion instruments; read and write musical notation both melodic and rhythmic; perform movement activities; perform various types of children's songs.

Synopsis This subject is designed to enable students to understand the importance of an integrated expressive arts program to children's total development in an early childhood setting. Music, movement, dance, art and drama will be presented at an introductory level. The emphasis will be on the provision of a balanced, integrated program which looks at the adult teaching role and the children as active initiators and participants.

Assessment Written: 70% + Practical work/practical component: 30%
