4 points + 3 hours per week + Second semester + Peninsula

Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should have an understanding of how some of the results of research in science and technology have led to improved equipment, facilities and training programs in sports; have an understanding of the basic principles to be applied to help reduce the risk of injuries in sport; have an understanding of the accepted methods of managing common sports injuries.

Synopsis Ergogenic aids and sports performance including vitamins, caffeine, anabolic steroids, blood doping, amphetamines, hypnosis, stress management, warmup. Scientifically based training and conditioning programs as a means of preventing sports injuries. Soft tissue injuries: causes, treatment, therapeutic modalities. Application of computer technology to sports and sports performance. Participation in selected fieldwork activities.

Assessment Examination: 60% + Practical test: 40%
