Physical education and health 1

4 points + 3 hours per week + First semester + Peninsula

Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should have developed knowledge and understandings of the function, structure and content in physical education and health education; the principles employed in constructing suitable programs in these areas. Students should have developed skills which will enable them to understand the teaching strategies and skills that motivate and stimulate students learning; demonstrate an ability to structure a variety of teaching lessons; demonstrate an ability to use references and resources in developing classroom learning experiences. Students should have developed positive attitudes towards: the teaching of physical education and health education; active participation in all the activities covered in this subject; completion and presentation of all assigned work by the due dates.

Synopsis This subject introduces students to health and physical education in the Curriculum and Standards Framework series; teaching strategies in health and physical education; major historical changes in health and physical education; assessment in health and physical education lesson planning, group organisation and group management; choosing teaching strategies to achieve outcomes.

Assessment Attendance of at least 80% + Written assignment (2500 words): 60% + Planning activities: 40%
