Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the reproduction system of males and females; the processes of conception and pregnancy; birth control; disorders and infections of the reproductive system; the nervous system; sight and hearing; the endocrine system; the role of nerves and hormones in homeostasis.
Synopsis This subject introduces students to the study of reproductive physiology and the coordination of body functions. Topics to be covered include the structure and function of male and female reproductive systems; the processes of conception and pregnancy; mechanisms of contraception; common diseases of the reproductive system; sterility and new reproductive technologies; organisation of the nervous system; the structure and function of the eye and ear; common eye and ear defects; organisation of the endocrine system; the role of hormones and nerves in controlling body functions; endocrine disorders. The subject is taught by lectures, tutorials, and practicals.
Assessment Essay (1000 words): 20% + Practical work: 30% + Examination (1.5 hours): 50%
