Bibliographic organisation

4 points + 3 hours per week + First semester + Clayton

Synopsis This subject examines the essentials of bibliographic organisation in libraries. The seminars introduce students to basic concepts of bibliographic organisation by examining the nature of bibliographic data, descriptive cataloguing practice, and standard methods of subject access to library materials. The practical sessions concentrate on instruction in the standard tools currently used in libraries for organising collections. LAR4070 is a prerequisite for LAR4080. Both must normally be taken in the same year.

Assessment Essay: 30% + Exercises: 50% + Seminar participation: 20%
