Objectives At the completion of this subject students should understand the forms the document has taken as stored information; have a foundation on which to build an awareness of the ways in which records and documents evolve in relation to the available technology and media; and and be able to analyse the systems which manage information.

Synopsis This subject introduces the role of the document, examines its nature and properties, and investigates the way in which the document functions as a stored, accessible and effective resource. It also explores the nexus between technology and the documentary process and notes the effect of changing technologies on the document.

Assessment Three project-based assignments: 20% each + Examination (2 hours): 40%
