Objectives On completion of this subject, students should be able to describe various categories of business information systems and their role in an organisation; discuss and apply general data management concepts; and use application software and information resources to obtain competitive advantage.

Synopsis Introduction to business information systems, computer hardware and software, overview of programming and computer languages, input/output and storage devices, files, file design, database fundamentals, use of microcomputer application software for business data processing including word processing, spreadsheets and database management systems, SDLC in system analysis.

Assessment Assignment: 30% + Examinations (3 hours): 70%
