Programming for business applications

Objectives Students completing this subject should be able to design and construct a small information system using a fourth-generation approach; appreciate those attributes which contribute to the quality of computer software, and be able to outline and follow a procedure for evaluating and acquiring commercial software packages.

Synopsis Programming language generations and their characteristics. Algorithms and computer programs. Data dictionaries and data analysis. Screen design. Report design. File design. Menu systems. Using a fourth-generation approach. Case studies of small business systems. Evaluation of software implementation and system documentation. For distance education students there is provision for additional student contact through electronic mail and news.

Assessment Assignments: 30% + Examination: 70% + Note that satisfactory performance in both components is required to obtain a pass
