Project management for information systems

4 points + 3 hours per week + Second semester + Peninsula + Prerequisites: CFR1123 or equivalent + Prohibitions: BUS2170, BUS2174, BUS2176, GCO2813, GCO7832, SYS2170

Objectives After completing this subject students should understand the need for project management; understand the requirements for `successful' project management; and be able to use techniques and tools to control and manage projects.

Synopsis Project planning: importance of project planning and control, problems in system development projects, planning aids such as CPM, PERT and Gantt charts, estimating - current techniques and problems. Project management: staffing project teams, working in teams, team dynamics. Project control: feedback of resources used, measuring progress, ways of rescheduling, reorganising to achieve project deadlines. Automated project management tools.

Assessment Examination (2 hours): 50% + Practical work: 50%
