Objectives This subject aims to give students a thorough overview of new developments in logistics and provide them with an understanding of how to apply theory in real business environments; provide a thorough analysis of logistics in manufacturing and service environments; critically and realistically appraise the applicability of theory in a chosen task area; demonstrate an understanding of the practicalities of managing logistics across the supply chain.
Synopsis Materials and logistics management; marketing and customer service; logistics channels' customer satisfaction; distribution management; inventory management; transportation; warehousing decisions; procurement and sourcing strategies; logistics information technology; supply partnerships; distribution planning; logistics organisation; human resources management.
Assessment A comprehensive report written at the end of the study period (6000 words): 60% + Progress reports including maintaining a diary of activities: 10% + Evaluation by the sponsoring group: 30%
