Objectives On completion of this subject students should be able to understand the fundamental concepts of systems thinking and the role and practice of inductive reasoning; understand the relevance of systems thinking to the analysis of organisations including the relationship of the organisations to its environment, internal functional processes and integrating activities such as customer service, quality management and continuous learning; demonstrate competence of a suite of systems tools and techniques including diagramming techniques and associated facilitation skills.
Synopsis The nature of systems; systemic thinking; systems theory; systems tools and techniques; systems models relating to operational problems; corporate strategy and public policy examples.
Assessment Individual assignments and presentations: 30% + Group assignment and presentations: 30% + Examination (3 hours): 40%
