Manufacturing management seminars

Objective On completion of this subject students should be able to demonstrate comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the selected topics; be familiar with the benefits of group dynamics and team work; and understand the importance of communications and presentation skills.

Synopsis This subject will require students to work on two topics, one individually and the second in small groups (two or three students per group) to carry out in-depth investigations into specific topics concerning manufacturing/operations management. Topics will be selected after consultation with the course director. Each student will be required to prepare and submit a report on their individual investigation and make a presentation to an appropriate forum. The second task is that each group will submit a report on its investigation and also make a presentation to an appropriate forum. Each member of the group will be expected to make equal contribution to the report and the presentation.

Assessment Individual assignment (4000 words): 20% + Individual oral presentation: 10% + Group written assignment (5000 words): 20% + Group oral presentation: 10% + Examination: 40%
