Objectives On completion of this subject students should be able to build on previous knowledge of organisational change processes; demonstrate an understanding of change processes which exist in large organisations, small groups and intrapersonal situations; describe organisation processes in terms of open systems; apply a systems perspective to organisational change; design organisational systems that produce desired outcomes; recommend desired changes for planned organisational change.

Synopsis Contexts of organisational change; open systems theory; systems frameworks including hard and soft systems, social technical systems and systems archetypes; organisational diagnosis; the learning organisation; alternative approaches for planned organisational change; managing change from a systems perspective.

Assessment Essay: 20% + Group work: 30% + Class participation: 10% + Examination (2 hours): 40%
