Objectives On completion of this subject students will understand how various interventions utilise particular strategies, structures and processes to improve organisational effectiveness; apply intervention methodologies and understand their effects on organisational change; analyse the nature of the planned change process at individual, group and organisation levels.
Synopsis Part one of the subject introduces students to the theory of organisation development (OD) and the role of the OD practitioner. Part two examines the process of planned change in organisations; topics include diagnosing organisational situations and problems, collecting analysing and feeding back diagnostic information and selecting, implementing and evaluating change interventions. Part three is concerned with OD practice and examines interventions at the individual, group and organisation levels. Part four concludes the subject by discussing future directions in OD and some of the key issues and ethical dilemmas facing practitioners today.
Assessment Assignment one (case study 2000 words): 20% + Assignment two (case study 3000 words): 30% + Examination: 50%
