Tourism management A

Objectives The major objectives of this subject are to develop understanding of the regulatory environment in which tourism enterprises must function, and to inform students on the roles of and interactions among industry organisations and various levels of governments. For those students who are employed or are planning a career in tourism it aims to enhance knowledge of current operations and developments within the tourism environment and to cultivate ethical attitudes with respect to the conduct of business in tourism.

Synopsis Topics include industry associations and organisation, the Australian Federal Government role in tourism; state, regional and local government tourism organisations; the who, what and why of planning; research for tourism development; handling and processing international travellers; travel agent operations; legal constraints for transport and tour operations; insurance for the travel and tourism industry; legal constraints for hotel managers; food and beverage operators; trade practices legislation for hospitality and tourism; legal issues when problems arise.

Assessment Two assignments (2000 words): 50% + Examination (3 hours): 50%
