Management practices

Objectives This subject aims to provide a foundation for other studies in the course by developing a fundamental understanding of organisational behaviour and management theory and practice. Students will be able to analyse the culture, functioning, problems and opportunities in their employing organisations through studies of contemporary approaches to management and human behaviour at individual, group and organisational levels. The subject aims also to cultivate the skills in communication required by managers at all levels.

Synopsis This subject covers management practices by considering: the manager in history (an introduction to management theory); the facilitator (individual and group behaviour in organisations); the leader (leadership culture and change); and the practising manager (decisions, power and ethics).

Assessment Four assignments (2000 words each): 25% each
