Objectives The major objectives of this subject are to develop understanding of the regulatory environment in which tourism enterprises must function and to inform students on the roles of and interactions between industry organisations and government departments at various levels. It aims also to cultivate ethical attitudes with respect to the conduct of business in tourism.
Synopsis Industry associations and organisations, the Australian federal government role in tourism, state, regional and local government tourism organisations, the who, what and why of planning, research for tourism development, handling and processing international travellers, travel agent operations, legal constraints for transport and tour operations, insurance for the travel and tourism industry, legal constraints for hotel managers, food and beverage operators, trade practices legislation for hospitality and tourism, legal issues when problems arise.
Assessment Two assignments (2000 words each): 50% + Examination (3 hours): 50%
