Agribusiness law

6 points + 3 hours per week + Second semester + Peninsula + Prerequisite: FIN1010

Objectives On completion of this subject students should have an awareness of those areas of law expected to impact upon their future careers in association with industry; environmental considerations; trade practices law; law affecting channels of distribution; legal liability of parties in the food distribution chain; legal protection for formulations, substances, inventions, etc; staff management law; national food standards and regulations; legal bases for farm financing.

Synopsis Introduction to the diverse areas of law which impinge on agribusiness with particular reference to the food industry from the farm-gate to end user; coverage of Trade Practices Act (Cth) Part IV, law affecting licensing, joint ventures, product liability, intellectual property law; introduction to industrial action; introduction to staff management law; State food law regulation; legal bases for farm financing.

Assessment Assignment: 20% + Examination (3 hours): 80%
