Research essay

Equivalent to two fourth-year level subjects + Irregular availability + Clayton + Students may be permitted to start the essay prior to the commencement of the academic year in February. These students should consult the coordinator of economic history in December.

Objectives On completion of this subject students should be able to further their development of research techniques, in the context of their previous studies in economic history. Students who complete this subject should have developed the ability to research a major topic and communicate their findings in a lucid and coherent research essay.

Synopsis Students who specialise in economic history are encouraged to attempt a research essay which must be based on primary sources of information on a topic of their choice, subject to the supervisor's agreement. The work will be supervised by a member of the department.

Assessment Written (12,000-word research paper): 100%
