Koorie studies I
8 points + 3 hours per week + First semester + Clayton + Prerequisites: Full
first year with one of ANY, HSY, GES, ABS11, ABS12, PLT, LIN or SCY
Synopsis In this subject students will be presented with an overview of
Australia's geographic environment and the Koorie economy prior to the
Pleistocene. Particular examination will be made of Koorie religion, lifestyle
and kinship system as they applied prior to the arrival of the British. The
post-contact period, the effects on the Koorie economy and changes occasioned
by the cultural contact will provide students with a background to Koorie
studies II.
Assessment Written (3000 words): 40% + Examinations (2 hours): 40% +
Tutorial paper and written summary (1000 words): 10% + Attendance and
participation: 10%
