Synopsis Students will be guided in the development and execution of a short research project utilising skills acquired during the preceding semester in JPL3070/JPS3071 (Theory and research in Japanese studies A). The seminar sessions will be used to discuss (i) operational problems in the formulation and execution of the project, (ii) the analysis of the findings, and (iii) the writing-up of the results. This is a research-oriented subject and students will spend considerable time collecting or generating data in the field and discussing problems and other issues in seminars. Further reading related to development the problem consciousness will occur early in the semester but will occur largely on an individual basis. The aim is to provide students with the background necessary to create and to analyse data. Students will be `walked through' the process of writing-up research findings. Students who plan to enter honours should take this subject or JPS3072.
