Human biology 3: development and disease I

8 points + 4 hours per week + First semester + Peninsula + Prerequisites: HBS1345 and HBS1355

Synopsis The subject considers a variety of factors in human development and lifestyle which can impact on the health of an individual. Topics to be covered include concepts of health; human-environment interrelationships; health and lifestyle associations; nutritional requirements; diseases associated with inadequate nutrition; diseases associated with nutritional excesses; conception and foetal development; selected congenital disorders; puberty; ageing and selected diseases associated with ageing; principles of inheritance; selected inherited traits and disorders; genetic prediction and counselling.

Assessment Two assignments (1000 words): 30% + Assignment (2000 words): 25% + Examination (2 hours): 45%
