Writing 1

8 points + 3 hours per week + First semester + Gippsland + Prerequisites: Two of GSC1401, GSC1402, GSC1901 and at least one second-level subject from the subjects listed above

Synopsis This subject offers students the opportunity to begin the process of developing and experimenting with a range of writing skills and techniques of different kinds, eg the compositional skills found in forms such as prose fiction, feature articles, film and TV scripts, reviewing, travel writing, autobiogrpahy, biography and the essay. Students will become familiar with the cultural and social contexts of writing and be encouraged to read widely in order to acquire a familiarity with a diversity of written forms of cultural production and associated techniques. Special attention will be paid to the relation between print and visual material. Additional skills will include those involved in the editing and preparing of copy of publication.

Assessment Essay (2000 words): 30% + Journal (3000 words): 50% + Editing assignment (1000 words): 20%
