Introduction to communication studies
Cathy Greenfield, Neil Hanley and Ros Prosser
6 points + 3 hours per week (1-hour lecture, 2 hours of tutorials) + First
semester + Gippsland/Distance
Synopsis The subject introduces students to the question of `what is
communication' with reference to a variety of definitions and approaches and
asks them to consider these within the context of the range of capabilities and
applications of communication in an information age. This subject complements
media studies to form the foundation of journalism.
Assessment Essay (2500 words): 60% + Examination (2 hours): 40%
