Environmental regulation

Proposed to be offered next in 1997

12 points + 3 hours per week + First semester + Clayton + Prerequisites: Any second-year human geography subject or permission of the head

Synopsis This subject introduces the nature and scope of environmental regulation, emphasising domestic regulation in Australia and the United States but also considering aspects related to international regulation. Competing models of regulation are assessed and evaluated, and topics such as tradeable pollution permits, property rights and social cost accounting are considered in detail. The roles and status of environmental protection agencies are also closely examined.

Assessment Assignment (2000 words): 25% + One long essay (4000 words): 40% + Examination (3000 words): 35%
