Experimental psychology: techniques and applications

6 points + Two 1-hour lectures and one 3-hour laboratory per week + First semester + Gippsland/Distance + Prerequisites: GAS2504 plus two subjects from GAS2501, GAS2502, GAS2503 or equivalent second-level subjects

Synopsis This subject will review current research on basic psychological processes of learning, perception, attention and motor performance. Modern research paradigms and techniques will be emphasised. Applications in areas such as sports psychology, clinical psychology and human factors psychology will be discussed. On completion of this subject students are expected to (a) understand current theory and research in learning, perception and motor performance (b) utilise modern research techniques used in these areas, and (c) describe important applications of basic research in experimental psychology. Distance education students are required to attend a two-day weekend or residential school program.

Assessment Two laboratory assignments: 40% + Examination: 60%
