French for business and trade

8 points + 3 hours per week + Second semester + Clayton + Prerequisites:
Normally FRN3110 or FRN3090 + Corequisites: 40 points of second/third-year
French except for students completing a double degree in BA/BE, BA/BCom or
BA/BBus for whom there is no corequisite.
Synopsis This subject is aimed at students intending to use French
professionally in industry and commerce. In the lectures students are
introduced to the economic role of languages and to problems of intercultural
communication. The structure of the French economy and France's place within
the European Union and in international trade are also described and analysed.
In the tutorial students develop and apply their French language skills in a
range of business situations by means of practical, realistic business tasks.
All forms of written and spoken French business communication (including by
telephone) are covered.
Assessment Oral and written business language tasks and final business
language assignment: 70% + Written examination: 25% + Tutorial work: 5%
