Introduction to French narrative fiction

Synopsis This subject examines French narrative fiction from historical
and structural perspectives. Students will acquire an understanding of the
development of prose narration from the simple oral tale to sophisticated forms
of modern fiction, looking at the relationship of literary form to literary and
social context. They will examine and develop descriptions of various features
of narrative fiction actualised in a variety of genres.
Assessment Class presentation: 20% + Text analysis (1500 words): 25% +
Essay (2000 words): 30% + Examination (1 hour): 25%
