Synopsis This subject examines Australia's relationship with Britain
from the 1900s to the present day. It looks at the changing orientation of
Australian trade, foreign policy and and cultural ties, and considers the role
of the monarchy as Australia approaches the centenary of federation. The
background to the current debate over republicanism is examined in detail and
the arguments for and against are considered.
