Synopsis The subject examines the profound changes the culture of ancient Egypt underwent during the period from 332 BCE to the end of the fourth century CE. It will focus upon the Hellenisation of Egypt after the conquest by Alexander the Great in 332 BCE and the role played by Alexandria, the impact of being incorporated into the Roman Empire after 30BCE, the closing of the ancient temples causing the disappearance of traditional pharaonic culture, and the development of Christianity.

Assessment Written (4000 words): 60% + Examination (2 hours): 40%
