Physics

The Department of Physics offers three main disciplines in the Faculty of Arts, namely physics, applied physics and theoretical physics. Details of subjects offered by the Department of Physics may be found in the handbook of the Faculty of Science.

Honours degrees are offered in the three disciplines mentioned above. Students whose results at third year are of an average credit standard in at least an appropriate twenty-four point sequence are eligible to enrol in the fourth (honours) year, which is offered by the Faculty of Science.

Minor studies in astronomy at second year and computer image processing at second and third year may also undertaken.

Information about postgraduate studies in physics, applied physics and theoretical physics is also available in the Department of Physics entry in the handbook of the Faculty of Science. Further information is available from the Department of Physics.

The Department of Physics also contributes to the subject `materials science', which appears under a separate heading in this handbook.
