Management of human resources in the social services

Synopsis The subject aims to develop an understanding of human resources management theory and practice for middle level managers in the social and community services. Specifically, the subject seeks to identify the nature of the social and community services workforce, to consider theories of human resources management, to examine the application of those theories to the social and community services workforce and to build human resources management programs suitable for social service organisations.The subject will cover the nature of the social and community services workforce, industrial relations in this workforce, the different types of social services organisations, theories of human resources management, administrative control of staff, professional development of staff, recruitment and selection of staff, supervising staff through organisational transitions.

Assessment One essay (2000 words): 25% + One essay (7000 words): 75%
