Synopsis The subject will explore patterns of continuity and change in the electoral behaviour of Australians, Britons and Americans over the last few decades. Special emphasis will be given to Australia where the literature allows. Topics for discussion include the degree of erosion of traditional party attachments in each country; the shifting social bases of party divisions; the rise of issue voting; the importance of party leaders; the growth of electoral volatility and prospects for the future.
