Topics in musicology

8 or 12 points + 2 hours per week + Second semester + Clayton

Synopsis The topic chosen is the history, philosophies and methods of music history writing. The subject includes critical discussion of sources (iconographical, archaeological, literary, sound etc.), facts and values, explanation and interpretation, and historical style. It also involves the critical study of major music histories written in several past and present-day societies.

Assessment (8 points) Paper and essay (4000 words) 80% + Assignments (1200 words): 20%

Assessment (12 points) Paper and essay (6000 words): 80% + Assignments (2000 words): 20%
