Synopsis This is a survey the history of keyboard instrumentsfrom the
earliest hydraulic organ to the latest electronic reconstruction. In terms of
repertoire, the `peak' pieces will be examined against the background of styles
and forms of lesser knownworks. Certain works are studied in great detail.
Assessment Written: 4 short assignments: 10%; 4 class papers (15
minutes): 10%; essay (4000 words): 40%; examinations (3 hours): 40%.
