Synopsis This subject presents a theoretical approach for examining intercultural interaction, focusing upon communication and socio-cultural behaviour. It deals with a variety of situations of contact between Japanese and Australians in tourism. By focusing upon the relationship between Australia and our largest international tourism market, Japan, the subject will be of value (i) to those interested in understanding more about the processes of cultural interaction in general, (ii) to those who desire a career in the international marketing of Australia, specifically to Japan, or (iii) who are involved in some other aspect of intercultural contact. The subject is valued at either six or eight points, depending upon the needs of the student.
