8 points + 2 hours per week + First semester + Clayton + Prerequisites: BA in Japanese with Monash post-level D Japanese or equivalent

Synopsis The primary aim of this subject is to extend the ability of students to comprehend written Japanese presented in a journalistic style. Students will read articles from newspapers and journals covering a wide range of topics and of different degrees of complexity . This subject also emphasises development of skills to comprehend a text and produce a summarised version. The subject involves extensive reading with a view to extending vocabulary in specialised areas and increasing students' knowledge of current affairs and social and cultural facts.

Assessment Kanji tests: 10% + Assignments: 40% + Test: 50%
