Synopsis A study of the history of specific ethnic groups and their interaction in Australia, with coverage of both the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Topics include the characteristics of Australian ethnic identity, the experience of Irish and Chinese immigrants, the place of Jews in Australian society, Aboriginal perspectives, the concept of an `Australian way of life,' challenges to Australian nationalism, and the contemporary politics of immigration and multiculturalism.
