Development studies and development planning in an era of global crisis

12 points + 2 hours per week + First semester + Clayton + Prerequisites:
Major sequence in geography or permission of head of department
Synopsis The subject will consider the implications for the study of
development and of development theory of a number of the global crises of the
1990s. The major topics include the end of the Cold War, militarism in the
third world, population growth, third world debt, gender and development,
ethnicity and nationalism and religious fundamentalism.
Assessment Essay (3000 words): 50% + Research report (6000 words): 50%
