Synopsis The subject aims to provide public sector managers operating in developing countries, whether in service of local or international public agencies, with skills, competencies and knowledge to manage public sector oriented development projects and agencies. The subject introduces students to leading issues in development management and to competing interpretations of these issues. Attention will focus on the public sector in developing countries. Topics will include organisational environments, policy making, bureaucracy, culture, administrative reform, organisational design, the planning process, public enterprises and privatisation and non-governmental organisations

Assessment Essay (2000 words): 20% + Syndicate assignment (4000 words): 40% + Examination (2 hours): 40% + A mark of at least 45% will be required in the examination to pass the subject
