Synopsis Learning and acquisition - monitor model, learnability; relation between first and second language acquisition; learning/acquisition context; foreign language learning vs. second language acquisition; contrastive and error analysis; pidginisation hypothesis; interlanguage; performance analysis and discourse analysis; learner characteristics - age, aptitude, cognitive styles, attitude and motivation; attrition as the inverse of acquisition; implications for curriculum content. Students will be able to work on problems in their teaching language.
Assessment Classwork (oral and written) 2000 words: 50% + Major assignment (5000 words): 50%
