6 points + 5 studio hours per week + First/Second semester + Gippsland + Prerequisites: GVA2323

Objectives By the completion of this subject and the minor strand students will have sufficient experience of the ceramics medium to use it confidently for their artistic ends; should have a generalised understanding of the properties of materials, and of firing processes; may have developed a distinctive aesthetic style within the medium; and have the potential to consider professional activity within the ceramics medium.

Synopsis The student will be wise not to spread too widely across the spectrum of ceramics. A strong sense of direction and cross reference to the student's chosen major will be encouraged, endeavouring to focus the student's artistic life. Independent production of works of quality will be monitored and form the basis of critical discussion.

Assessment Studio participation: 20% + Set projects: 20% + Final show of work: 60%
