6 points + 5 studio hours per week + First/second semester + Gippsland + Prerequisites: GVA1121

Objectives By the completion of this subject students are expected to have demonstrated that they have begun to have a critical self-awareness regarding the technical and conceptual basis of their work; that they are able to articulate the above in verbal and written form; that they have begun to focus on particular subject matter and themes; and that they are able to extend technical and manipulative skills and procedures acquired in the previous subject.

Synopsis Students will be expected to begin to develop a critical awareness of the conceptual and technical aspects of painting in conjunction with the concerns expressed in the work they complete in their major area of study. It is expected that students will complete a number of paintings and related studies as well as document their work in written and visual form.

Assessment Paintings: 50% + Studies: 30% + Journal: 20%
