Objectives By the completion of this subject students are expected to have demonstrated critical awareness of their own work in terms of technical and conceptual aspects and that they are able to discuss this; that they have an established and appropriate personal working procedure; that experimentation and investigation within their work is beginning to focus on specific subject matter, themes and philosophies; and that they are able to begin to explore the technical and conceptual relationship between their drawings and paintings.

Synopsis Students are to undertake a set project throughout the semester. This project is designed to broaden their use of source material both in technical and conceptual terms. The project will allow students to begin to focus, through personal investigation and interpretation, on specific themes and subject matter. Emphasis will be placed on developing a connection between drawing and painting; both technically and conceptually. Students will be expected to produce at least five finished paintings, as well as related studies, a finished drawing folio, and written documentation of their critical awareness in the form of a journal.
