Foundation drawing

Objectives By the completion of this subject students are expected to have exercised a visual perception and awareness through direct observation; understanding of basic elements of line, tone, colour, texture, form, proportion, rhythm, shape and pattern; to have explored a variety of drawing materials and extended their range of manipulative skills with these materials; recognisd the working relationship between ideas, source material and imagination; and awareness of the various contexts in which drawing exists, such as notational drawing, the development of ideas for other forms of image/object making, and as a form of art making in its own right.

Synopsis This subject is concerned with the exploration of basic possibilities in drawing practice, its methods and its materials. Through exercises and classes in direct observation of the subject, it is designed to develop perceptual and manipulative skills through the study of proportion, line, form, rhythm, shape and pattern.

Assessment Attendance and participation: 20% + Review of all work: 80%
